Karen Grier was born in Northfield, MN and has also lived in Nebraska, Wisconsin, Florida, and New Mexico. After a year at Winona State University and another at the University of Minnesota, Karen ended up at the Omaha (NE) Public School of Practical Nursing. She started her nursing career when she was 19 and has worked in various settings such as doctors’ offices, hospitals, nursing homes, private duty, and in prisons for many years.
Karen’s main craft is needlepoint work, which she started when her mother-in-law gave her a needlepoint picture of an apple tree for Christmas. Karen had never done anything like that before, but she taught herself. She also knits. She currently lives in Albuquerque, NM with her calico cat, Olivia, and her always-smiling Bedlington terrier, Sophie.
