Dulanie Ellis has been a filmmaker for the last 30 years. Beginning for many years as a Script Supervisor on feature films in Hollywood, she eventually turned to documentary filmmaking after the birth of her daughter. Dulanie was Associate Producer with Tell the Truth Pictures on five social justice documentaries. “Mighty Times: The Legacy of Rosa Parks” was nominated for an Academy Award in 2000. These films led her to producing Ground Operations: Battlefields to Farmfields, the compelling story of combat veterans who are being called to the land.
At a time when America is facing the loss of half of our farmers, and the challenges of climate change, veterans are stepping up to strengthen our food security one regenerative farm at a time. Ground Operations is both an award-winning film and a social action campaign that has been promoting veterans in Ag on a local and national level. It inspired a Ventura County veteran-to-farmer program as well as half a dozen other regional programs. Knowing that organic and regenerative agricultural practices can sequester carbon back into the soil and out of the atmosphere has been a prime driver of the Ground Operations marketing effort.
