Blue Bear School of Music, a San Francisco-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, has provided music education for more than 35,000 adults, kids, and teens since 1971. Each year, more than 2,200 students enroll in Blue Bear programs. At schools and community centers across the city, Blue Bear’s expanding Community Outreach Programs provide music education for youth in grades 2–12, filling the gaps where public funding for arts programs has been reduced or eliminated.  We provide free music instruction at some of San Francisco’s most iconic community service organizations including Glide Memorial Church, Bayview Hunters Point YMCA, the Teen Center at San Francisco Main Library and the Tenderloin Recreation Center. We grew our outreach programs to serve over 500 kids in 2016. We believe that everyone should have equal access to quality music education and the gift of playing music. Our guiding principle is that learning to play music inspires and strengthens individuals while creating community.
